About the area

Proudly serving Gilcrest, Colorado

Gilcrest began as the struggling railroad town of Nantes. In 1907, Iowa lumberman W.K. Gilcrest bought up much of the land around it and started a new community on the same spot, naming it for his father, Jacob K. Gilcrest. The town incorporated in 1912, planted 1,000 trees in its park and along its streets within a few years, and in 1915 W.K. Gilcrest, by then a state legislator, helped route the Greeley-to-Denver highway, today's U.S. 85, right through town.

For most of the 1900s Gilcrest was a farm hub, with a sugar beet dump at the railroad station from 1913 to 1975 and potatoes from the surrounding fields stored in town. Today it's a friendly, small town of about 1,000 in central Weld County, and the town library still carries the Nantes name. Whether you're in town or on a farm nearby, our local team already knows the area and can tell you what to expect before your install ever happens.
